Indications:
Hearing aids are indicated for insured individuals who have bilateral hearing loss and retain residual hearing in the better ear after completing medical or surgical treatment. The necessity for a hearing aid must meet one or more of the following criteria:

The hearing loss cannot be treated with medication or surgery, or there are contraindications for surgery, or the treating physician determines that surgery would not be beneficial, or the patient refuses surgery.
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss that persists after more than 100 days of continuous medical treatment.
Hearing loss that hinders communication, daily activities, or reduces quality of life.
Hearing loss that interferes with speech and language development, or is accompanied by other disabilities.

Guidelines and Conditions for Reimbursement (Social Security):

The better ear must have an average air conduction threshold at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 Hz of ≥ 40 dB.
The insured person must have hearing loss in both ears.

Reimbursement Rates for Different Types of Hearing Aids:
